summer recap

It was a busy summer and I had some awesome sailing trips.

I sailed on Haystack Res. numerous times this summer and had some good evening sails.
by far my two favorite sailing trips of the summer were the Smoke on the Water Regatta and sailing on Discovery Bay.

the Smoke on the Water regatta had some of the best wind that I have ever sailed in at a regatta. I would highly recommend attending this event it is put on by fleet 72 out of Portland Oregon. Saturday there were light winds, but there was still enough wind to make things interesting. Sunday was awesome we did a 29mile distance race. when we started out there were light winds around 6mph by the time we got to the windward mark it was blowing 18+mph. there were 2-4 ft rollers. it was a rush flying a hull through those waves and it was especially nice sailing an 18 that doesn't tend to pitchpole like a 16. I ended up taking first place for the weekend in the 18 class.

Discovery Bay was a nice relaxing piece of water but we were still able to get a hull up a few times. The distances we were able to sail without tacking were huge. I loved that part of it.

I look forward to going back to both of these places.

Just wanted to make sure everybody was aware of the 2nd annual "The Border Run" race to be held next year on April 24th and 25th, 2010. The actual race is on the 24th followed by the trophy party the 25th. This is an offshore race between New Port Beach harbor and San Diego harbor a distance of approximatey 70 miles. So far including myself, there are 3 Hobie 18's registered out of a total of 118 boats registered so far. Sure would like to see some more 18's in the race! Last year there… Continue
